The Importance of Celebrating Arbor Day

How many of you know what Arbor day is?

I can tell you that up till a few years ago I didn’t REALLY know what it was. I love that Arbor day is a day to celebrate trees. We’re coming up on the 150th anniversary for Arbor day. Do you know what trees give us? You can look back in my favorite book, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

Trees give us shade, food, and of course, oxygen. How many of you climbed up trees and built tree forts? Trees give and give until they can’t give any more. I love trees and I love seeing the joy they give my boys. This is why I’m donating to the Arbor Day Foundation.

When donating and signing up as a member you can have the option to get 10 FREE trees. This is what we plan to do and plant them with the boys around our community. We plan to make a day of it. I have created tree worksheets on my TPT account for my boys and you can check them for your little ones too.

Take the time to do this fun hands on tree project with your little ones.

Did you know? (According to Arbor Day Foundation)

*More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon Rainforest.
*More than 180 million Americans receive quality drinking water from forested watersheds.
*Surfaces shaded by trees may be 20-45 degrees cooler.
*One large tree can provide a day’s supply of oxygen for up to 4 people.
*Trees help reduce crime.
*Trees increase property value.

Arbor day is typically celebrated on the last Friday of April. But each state can have a different day to celebrate based on the time to plant them. With our Florida planting time being in January (when we usually talk about winter) I forget to mention trees in my learning, but not this year.

Along with the papers I created, we are going to discuss our state tree. Then we will go collect tree droppings from our community and create a picture-perfect painting.

Go ahead and check out their website >>HERE<<, it has amazing information plus you can donate and help our children’s future. Teach your children the importance of tree planting today! Will you be celebrating Arbor day this year? Let me know when you celebrate Arbor day. Check out more of my learning activities >>HERE<<Have a beautiful, healthy day. Love ya, Mary xoxo

  2. So cute! We have large trees behind our House that my daughter loves to stare at because of the birds. I hope we can plant more for all these benefits you listed.
